The idea of uniformly black-clad assassins/ne'er-do-wells has always troubled me. "I say, chaps. Let's all put on our internationally recognised murderers' outfits and go and whack Baron X. Remember, try not to do anything that might attract attention... oh, and before we go let's have a couple of spliffs ... but no giggling or stopping off to buy chocolate Hobnobs."

I suspect, Japanese people spotted ninjas a mile off - but were simply too polite to make a fuss.
