I keep coming back and looking at this for reference I really like the look of the unit as a whole. You said you used spears from Northstar rather than the halberds/bills from the actual set was it an easy swap?
And do you have theses miniatures as part of a much larger miniature army? I'm going to have to order a set of theses and find a place to get the spears you used

I'd like to see more men at arms levies etc sure the Knights are great but more sets like the spear men and shield wall perhaps some archers of light cavalry like hoblars I'm saying this from a war gamers point of view value at sets are fantastic and I'd like to fill out my whole 12th century army with your miniatures.

    Archers
    Crossbowmen in action
    Light cav (holblers,scurryers)
    Peasant levies
    Mounted/dismounted sergeants

    just some ideas

Does this mean we could be looking forward to more Byzantine models in the future :)

  • How to sculpt medieval fortress wall?DateWed Dec 10, 2014 11:17 am

Sorry I'm a bit late on posting to this thread but I thought I'd share my limited experience on this.
I know this is in 28mm so slightly larger but I want to build a 1:72 scale fortress in the new year

First build the basic structure out of thick card so you know the basic lay out

Then add in walls floors parra pits doors windows and spray black the reason you need to spray it at this stage is so once the texture is on you don't have card showing through and it's easier than spraying on the texture paint

Next cover with clear thick texture paint and using a scalpel carve in the brick work while the paint is still drying once the texture paint is dry using a thick brush paint over with grey using a drybrush technique as you want the black to show through the cracks a bit. Then add roofs made of card

Paint a few bricks in other shades add flock and gravel as well as any other detail and you are good to go

I know this one is rather basic and poorly detailed as far as dioramas go but it was my starting point hopefully my next one will be better

they look great though i have a question, in the pictures are that both spear men sets combined? or are there any other models thrown in there? seeing them all together like you have done them really shows off the miniatures character.

The family is great and it suits me great as i have a wife daughter and son i might have to do a small diorama and paint his surcoat in my family colours

  • Question what period is this for does it fit into the 12-13th centuries to match the miniatures or is it more a 14th century type of building?

haha im looking at that option though there are a few sets that are out of stock namely the infantry on the march does that mean they are no longer making it?

First thank you for adding me to your forum.

My project is in fact just to start collecting 1:72 medieval figure i just found this site i was amazed by the models so i went down to my local hobby shop only to find out because i'm in Australia Valdemar miniatures are hard to get. so i though i would start with what ever i could get my hands on so i got a box Caesars crusaders to get me started.
